Women’s Golf Finishes Seventh at Briar's Creek Invitational

JOHN'S ISLAND, S.C. - The NC State women's golf team finished seventh place out of 17 teams at the Briar's Creek Invitational played at the Golf Club at John's Island. In a 36-hole format, shortened due to weather, the Pack finished with a 13-over 589 (291-298).
The Pack had two players finish in the top 20, highlighted by Marie Eline Madsen and Lauren Olivares Leon who tied for 13th place out of 100 golfers with an even-par 144. Madsen finished the first round with a 3-under 69, her eighth round in the 60s as a freshman behind four birdies, 13 pars and one bogey. In the second round, Madsen finished with a 3-over 75 with two birdies, three bogeys, 12 pars and one double bogey. She had the fifth best par 5s average (4.56) in the field.
Olivares Leon picked up her fifth top 20 finish this season after carding a 1-over 73 in the first round behind two birdies, 13 pars and three bogeys. She finished the tournament with a 1-under 71 with four birdies, 11 pars and three bogeys, including a birdie at hole 17 to finish at under par for the ninth time this season.
Ellise Rymer competed as an individual, finishing with a 4-over 148 (74-74) to tie for 32nd. She logged six birdies, 21 pars, eight bogeys and one double bogey across the two rounds.
Caitlin Whitehead finished the tournament with a 9-over 153 (76-77). She finished in a tie for 54th, logging seven birdies, 17 pars, eight bogeys and four double bogeys across the 36 holes. Whitehead had the second best par 3s average in the field (2.75).
Jaclyn Kenzel logged a tie for 65th behind a 10-over 154 (79-75). She wrapped up the tournament with a solid finish with a 3-over 75 with two birdies, 13 pars, one bogey and two bogeys, including a birdie at hole 18.
Vania Simont finished with a 14-over 158 (73-85). She had a solid day in the first round with five birdies, nine pars, three bogeys and one double bogey. Simont logged a tie for 80th.
