RALEIGH, NC – Midweek baseball returns to Doak Field as NC State baseball welcomes the Aggies of North Carolina A&T on Tuesday, March 11 at 6 p.m. and broadcast on ACCNX.
The Wolfpack is 11-5 on the season and riding an eight-game winning streak after sweeping Wright State over the weekend. Sunday starter Ryan Marohn was named ACC Pitcher of the Week on Monday afternoon.
For the second straight week, Marohn tossed a complete-game shutout. The southpaw was virtually unhittable on Sunday, March 9, throwing 9.0 innings and allowing just four hits. The Chantilly, Virginia, product struck out a career-high 14 hitters while allowing just one free pass. Between the sixth and ninth innings, Marohn struck out nine consecutive batters and 10 of the last 12 hitters he faced. After throwing a complete-game seven-inning shutout last time out, Marohn has now thrown 17 consecutive scoreless innings dating back to the fifth inning against Coastal Carolina in the Jacksonville Classic on February 23.
Marohn is the only pitcher in the country to have thrown two complete games this season.
The Wolfpack has not lost to North Carolina A&T in the previous 25 meetings in the series. The two teams first met in 1998. At the Doak, NC State is 22-0 when welcoming the Aggies to Raleigh. The Wolfpack's Largest margin of victory came in 2016, when NC State won 25-1.
Cooper Consiglio is set to make his second straight Tuesday start. Last week against UNCG, Cooper went four innings, giving up no runs, allowing just one hit, and striking out six. Consiglio and Anderson Nance combined to go nine innings against the Spartans, allowing no runs on seven hits, no walks, and eight strikeouts, with Nance earning his first collegiate win.
The Wolfpack have scored 133 runs this season and held their opponents to just 67. NC State has six run-rule victories this season and has scored 10+ runs in nine games this year, going 9-0 in those contests.
Chris McHugh's big season continues hitting .386 in 16 games, starting all at first base. His 23 RBIs this year lead the team and rank fifth in the conference. Luke Nixon, at the top of the lineup, has eight doubles this year, the second-best mark in the conference, while Ty Head, although his on-base streak was snapped after 15 games, is 15th in the country with 18 walks.
Following the matchup with the Aggies, NC State will begin ACC play this weekend when Virginia Tech travels to Raleigh.
