Sixth Inning Homer Pushes Pack Past JMU

ORLANDO, Fla. - A two-run home run by senior Taylor Ensley in the bottom of the sixth inning pushed NC State past James Madison for the second time in 24 hours in the final game of the Black and Gold Classic hosted by UCF.
The Wolfpack closes out opening weekend with a 3-2 record.

The Pack will head to Boca Raton for the Joan Joyce Classic hosted by FAU starting on Friday, Feb. 14. NC State will face Purdue at 6pm to open play in week two of the season.

How it Happened
- Senior infielder Michele Tarpey was the first one to get a hit on the board from either team when she hit a chopper down the left field line in the bottom of the second with two outs.
- The Dukes recorded their first three hits in the top of the third inning after three singles. A throwing error by the Wolfpack infield allowed the Dukes to get on the board first and take a 1-0 lead but the Pack grabbed the final out before they could increase the lead.
- After being thrown four balls, junior utility player MaKayla Marbury headed to first and later stole second in the bottom of the fifth. In Tarpey's second plate appearance of the morning, she hit her second single and brought home Marbury to tie the game at one-all
- Junior right handed pitcher Madison Inscoe totaled three strikeouts through six innings of work with no earned runs.
- Sophomore Tori Ensley led off the bottom of the sixth with an infield single to start the Pack off strong. Older sister Taylor Ensley stepped into the box with one out on the board and her younger sister on second. Taylor Ensley drilled a ball past the left field wall to tally her second homer of the season and push NC State ahead, 3-1.
- The Dukes added two more hits to the board in the top of the seventh but the hopes of rallying were cut short as the Wolfpack picked up the final out of the meeting.
- Inscoe finished the outing with three strikeouts in seven innings of work.
