CHAPEL HILL, N.C. – The NC State men's basketball team fell to North Carolina, 97-73, Wednesday night inside the Dean E. Smith Center.

The Tar Heels opened up a 54-26 halftime lead as the Pack turned it over nine times and shot just 36 percent from the field.

Despite shooting 55 percent in the final 20 minutes and only turning it over once, the Pack couldn't make much of a dent into its deficit as the closest NC State got in the second half was 20 points.

Jayden Taylor led NC State in scoring for the second consecutive game, finishing with 19 points. Dontrez Styles added 18 points and a team-high five rebounds.

Paul McNeil scored 12 of his season-best 14 points in the second half.

Ben Middlebrooks did not score, but tied his career-high with three assists.

UNC shot 57.4 percent from the field for the game. Four Tar Heels scored in double figures led by RJ Davis with 21 points.

NC State returns home for a clash with Wake Forest on Saturday. Tipoff against the Demon Deacons inside the Lenovo Center is 2 p.m. and the game will be televised on ESPN2.
