Hot Shooting 20th-ranked Auburn Gets Past Pack, 83-73

AUBURN, Ala. – The 20th-ranked Auburn men's basketball team shot 59.1 percent for the game to defeat NC State, 83-73, Wednesday night inside Neville Arena.
The Tigers made 12 of their 22 three-point attempts and 19 of their 22 foul attempts in the win.
NC State shot a season-low 40.6 percent in the loss.
Quadir Copeland led the Pack with 22 points on 8-of-12 shooting.
Tre Holloman added 16 points as made a season-high four triples. Holloman also led the Pack with four assists.
Ven-Allen Lubin finished with 12 points and Darrion Williams chipped in 11.
NC State forced Auburn into 20 turnovers and had a season-high 14 steals.
After three Auburn free throws opened the scoring, the Pack scored the next nine points to take an early 9-3 lead. The Tigers though went on a run coming out of the first media timeout, making nine straight field goal attempts to turn its early deficit into a 28-16 advantage courtesy of a 25-7 run.
The Pack responded to Auburn's run thought with a 13-0 run of their own to retake the lead 29-28 on a lay-up by Copeland.
Auburn went back up with a 9-2 run and led the rest of the first half.
Despite shooting just 38.2 percent in the first half, while Auburn shot 59.1 percent, the Pack trailed by just six points at the break, 41-35, as NC State turned Auburn over 13 times in the opening 20 minutes.
After halftime, NC State closed within two points on three different occasions, but with Auburn leading 56-54 with 12:08 to play, the Tigers went on a 10-0 run to take a 66-54 lead with 10:02 remaining and the Pack was never able to get closer than seven the rest of the way.
Kevin Overton led Auburn with a career-high 29 points on 8-of-13 shooting, including 6-of-9 from three-point range. Keyshawn Hall added 28 points on 9-of-14 shooting, including 5-of-7 from three-point range.
NC State is back in action Saturday when it plays its first home game in 19 days when it hosts UNC Asheville. Tipoff inside the Lenovo Center is scheduled for 1 p.m. and the game will be televised on The CW.
