Lubin Powers Pack to Win over UNC Asheville

RALEIGH, N.C. – NC State men's basketball senior forward Ven-Allen Lubin posted a double-double with 23 points and 12 rebounds to lead the Pack past UNC Asheville, 75-63, on Saturday afternoon inside the Lenovo Center.
The Orlando, Fla., native finished the outing two points shy of tying his career-high in points and one rebound short of tying his career-high in rebounds.
Lubin went a perfect 9-for-9 from the field in the second half as he scored 19 of the Pack's 40 points in the final 20 minutes of the game.
Matt Able and Quadir Copeland joined Lubin in double figures with each player scoring 13 points. Copeland added a season-high eight assists and team-best three steals in the win.
The Pack got off to a slow start as they missed 12 of their first 15 shots which allowed UNC Asheville to open up a 16-7 lead nine minutes into the game.
NC State responded with a 13-0 run to take a 20-16 lead, but the Bulldogs answered right back with a 9-0 run to take a 25-20 advantage with 6:25 to play.
The Pack answered UNC Asheville's 9-0 run with a 10-0 run to retake the lead 30-25 on an Able basket with 3:32 to go in the first half.
The Bulldogs would close back within one, but would never get back in front as the Pack took a 35-33 lead into the halftime break.
NC State opened the second half on a 9-1 run to take its first double-digit lead of the game, 44-34, with 15:44 remaining.
The Bulldogs were able to get back within three, 49-46, with 11:36 left, but a 7-0 spurt from the Pack brought the advantage back to double digits and UNC Asheville would never seriously threaten for the lead again.
Kameron Taylor led the Bulldogs with 20 points while Justin Wright added 16 and DJ Patrick chipped in 15.
NC State finished the game with a 40-14 advantage in points in the paint and the Pack's bench outscored UNC Asheville's bench, 23-0.
NC State returns to action Wednesday night when it hosts preseason Conference USA favorite Liberty at the Lenovo Center. Tipoff against the Flames is scheduled for 7 p.m. and the game will be televised on the ACC Network.
