RALEIGH – Fifth-ranked and third-seeded NC State men's soccer (12-1-4) dominated the No. 14 seed Louisville 3-0 in the opening round of the ACC Tournament Wednesday night to secure another home game at Dail Soccer Stadium.
In front of nearly 1,800 fans at Dail, many firsts were claimed for the Pack in the first round of the ACC Tournament.
The Wolfpack picked up its first ACC Tournament win under head coach Marc Hubbard after falling in the first round last season. Breaking through to the second round of the highly-competitive bracket, NC State is set to host No. 6 seed Syracuse on Sunday at 6 p.m. The two teams just met in the regular season finale in Raleigh, which resulted in a 1-1 draw.
Switching to the tournament format in 1987 to determine the ACC title, this will mark the first time in program history that a men's soccer ACC Tournament second round game will be held at Dail.
After Drew Lovelace started the scoring party, transfers Carlos Santamaria and Thomas Lamaille each netted their first goals as part of the Pack to push the lead to three.
With yet another clean sheet in goal by Logan Erb, the squad tallied its 13th shutout of the season, continuing to lead the NCAA.
