Pack Dismantles NC Central in Will Wade Era Opener

NC State Tied a School Record with 19 three-pointers in the win
RALEIGH, N.C. – The NC State men's basketball team opened the Will Wade era in style on Monday night as it tied a program-record with 19 made three-pointers on its way to a 114-66 win over NC Central in front of a sold out crowd at the Lenovo Center.
 
NC State had seven players reach double figures and it passed out 27 assists on 37 made baskets.
 
Preseason ACC Player of the Year Darrion Williams led the Pack with 19 points on 7-of-10 shooting and added a team-best eight assists.
Paul McNeil, Jr., (16), Quadir Copeland (15), Tre Holloman (15), Matt Able (14), Jerry Deng (12) and Ven-Allen Lubin (10) also reached double figures for NC State.
 
Overall, 11 of NC State's 13 players that played tonight scored.
 
Jordan Snell buried a three-pointer late in the game for the Pack's 19th three-pointer of the night to tie a program and Lenovo Center record.
 
NC State had four players make three or more three-pointers in the game with Holloman, McNeil, Jr., and Williams all making four treys while Able made three.
NC State's 114 points are the second-most ever scored in the building, and the 114 points and 27 assists are the most for the program since Dec. 22, 2017 when NC State had 28 assists and 116 points in a 52-point win over Jacksonville.
 
The Pack jumped out to an 8-0 lead not even two minutes into the game to force an NC Central timeout. The Eagles settled in and got within six, 22-16, with 11:41 to play in the first half, but NC State went on a 13-0 run to push the lead out to 19 and the Eagles never got closer than 16 the rest of the way.
 
In the second half, NC State's lead ballooned to as many as 58 points (100-42 with 7:31 to play).
 
The Pack finished with a 3-to-1 assist-to-turnover ratio (27-to-9) and outrebounded the Eagles by 16. Able and Lubin each had six to lead the team in rebounding.
 
In addition to its new head coach, NC State had 11 players make their program debut on Monday night.
 
NC State (1-0) returns to action Friday night when it hosts UAB (1-0). Tipoff against the Blazers is scheduled for 9 p.m. and the game will be televised on the ACC Network.
