Pack Handles Hokies to Pick Up Fourth Straight Win

BLACKSBURG, Va. – The NC State volleyball team picked up its fourth straight win in conference action when it swept Virginia Tech in straight sets Sunday afternoon in Cassell Coliseum.
The Pack moves to 15-13 overall and 8-10 in Atlantic Coast Conference action.
Junior outside Clara Vondran tallied the first kill of the afternoon to open the match, but the Hokies went on a 4-0 scoring run to take the initial lead. A block by middle blocker Lily Cropper and right side, Sa'Mya Dorsey ended the Hokies scoring run.
A back-and-forth battle between the two programs began, but Virginia Tech continued to regain the lead every time the Pack tied things up. The Hokies went on a 3-1 scoring run out of the media timeout to take a three-point lead over the Pack (15-18) , forcing head coach Megan Wargo-Kearney to use a timeout.
Consecutive kills by freshman outside Rebecca Ring allowed the Pack to go on a 3-0 scoring run of its own to force a Virginia Tech timeout. A solo block by freshman Dorsey gave the Wolfpack its first lead of the match, 22-21.
After playing set point four times, Ring tallied her seventh kill to end the opening frame with the Pack on top, 28-26. The opening frame was tied on 15 different occasions and saw four lead changes throughout.
The Pack opened the second set by taking a 5-1 lead, forcing an early timeout by the Hokies. Virginia Tech went on a 4-0 scoring run to tie it up five-all, but NC State continued to find a way to regain the lead.
Ring was the first to 10 kills as the Pack picked up its 20th point of the second set. The Hokies took a timeout hoping to slow the Pack and went on a 3-0 scoring run to minimize the Pack's lead to three, forcing an NC State timeout. A kill by Bryant gave NC State the second set, 25-20.
The Pack continued to dominate the match as it opened the third set hot. A kill by Cropper and attacking error by the Hokies allowed the Pack to push its lead to seven, it's largest of the afternoon. Virginia Tech used its final timeout as it trailed, 8-15.
The Pack continued to maintain its momentum throughout the third set, until the end where Virginia Tech managed to work the NC State block. After the Pack allowed the Hokies to minimize the lead to three (23-20), the Pack called a quick timeout and got the final two points to end the third set, 25-20.
Ring led the Pack with 14 kills while Bryant added 10 and Dorsey added eight of her own. Cropped led the defensive efforts with five blocks.
Elaisa Villar tallied 38 assists, six digs, two aces and a block to the stats sheet.

The Pack will play its final road match of the season on Wednesday, November 26. NC State will travel to Miami to take on the Canes at 2pm on ACCNX.
