
McNeil and Williams Post Career Nights as Pack Demolishes UNCG, 110-64

RALEIGH, N.C. – Paul McNeil, Jr., and Darrion Williams each had career-highs in points and NC State scored 63 points in the second half as the Pack throttled UNCG, 110-64, Wednesday night inside the Lenovo Center.
Williams scored a career-high 32 points and added 10 rebounds for his first double-double in an NC State uniform. McNeil, Jr., posted his career-high in points with 27 on 8-of-16 shooting.
The two players combined for 35 of NC State's 63 points in the second half as Williams went 7-for-9 from the field in the final 20 minutes, including 6-of-6 from three-point range. McNeil added three three-pointers of his own in the second half as the Pack made 12 three-pointers in the closing period.
NC State's lead was just 10 points at the break, 47-37, and a UNCG three-pointer early in the second period got the Spartans with eight, 51-43, with 17:07 to play. But the Pack turned up the defense the rest of the way as UNCG only made three field goals over the next 13 minutes as the Pack turned a 51-43 advantage into a 96-54 lead with 4:45 to go.
The Pack finished the game shooting 55.9 percent from the field and shot 50 percent from three-point range, making 16 of 32 attempts from long range.
NC State shot 67.6 percent from the field in the final 20 minutes (23-of-34) as the Pack's 63 points in the second half nearly matched UNCG's total point output for the game.
The Pack's 63 second half points are the most for NC State in the second period since it had 65 points in a win over Mount St. Mary's on Nov. 6, 2018. It's the second-most points in a single half in Lenovo Center history.
Quadir Copeland and Matt Able joined McNeil, Jr., and Williams in double figures. Copeland finished with 13 points and six assists while Able finished with 10 points.
UNCG finished the game shooting just 31.9 percent from the field. The Spartans scored 26 of its 64 points at the foul line as UNCG had 41 free throw attempts in the game. The 41 free throw attempts are the second-most ever for an NC State opponent in the Lenovo Center.
NC State returns to action Monday night when it hosts VCU. Tipoff in the Lenovo Center is scheduled for 7 p.m. and the game will be televised on the ACC Network.
