Jade Bordeleau and Olivia Pratapas powered NC State to its first ranked win since Nov. 14, 2021, as the Wolfpack defeated No. 12 Wake Forest, 2-1, on Thursday, Oct. 2, at Dail Soccer Stadium.
Bordeleau provided the difference early, recording a brace in the opening 10 minutes. The breakthrough came in the ninth minute when Mackenzie Smith drew a foul in the box, and Bordeleau converted the penalty into the lower-left corner, her second successful PK in the last three matches. Just 38 seconds later, she doubled the lead, finishing a pass from Daisy Duda past Wake goalkeeper Valentina Amaral. Fien Leijdekker also earned an assist on the play.
Wake Forest pulled one back in the 43rd minute on a header from Elliana Ramirez, but the Pack held firm after halftime. Pratapas anchored the defense with a season-best eight saves, including seven in the second half, as she faced 13 shots and seven corner kicks to secure her third win of the year.
A Win Would …
Thursday marks the 20th all-time meeting between NC State and Boston College, with the Eagles holding a 14-5 advantage in the series. The teams last met in 2024, when Boston College earned a 2-1 victory over the Wolfpack. Despite the overall deficit, NC State has found most of its success in the matchup over the past decade, with four of its five wins coming since 2016.
Scouting the Eagles
Boston College enters Thursday's matchup with a 4-4-5 record and is still searching for its first ACC win of the season, holding a 0-3-2 mark through five league contests. The Eagles' two conference points have come from draws against Wake Forest and Cal.
Offensively, Sophie Reale leads the team with six goals and 13 points, while also adding one assist. She is one of seven Eagles to score this season. Bella Douglas has paced the passing attack with a team-high three assists. In goal, Olivia Shippee has played the majority of minutes for BC, posting a 0.60 goals-against average with just seven goals allowed this season.
Bordeleau's Having a Ball
Bordeleau leads the Pack with eight goals this season, a total that ranks tied for fourth in the ACC and matches the most by a Wolfpack player since 2022. The junior is coming off a game-winning brace scored just 38 seconds apart in the victory over Wake Forest, converting a penalty in the ninth minute before adding an open-play goal moments later. The performance extended her scoring streak to four straight matches, the longest by a Wolfpack player since 2011, with three of those goals coming against top-15 opponents.
Her standout effort against Wake Forest earned Bordeleau ACC Co-Offensive Player of the Week honors on Oct. 7, marking NC State's first conference offensive weekly award since 2021.
Pratapas is Player of the Week (Again!)
Pratapas was named ACC Defensive Player of the Week for the second time in three weeks on Oct. 7, becoming the first NC State player since 2016 to earn the league's defensive weekly honor twice in a season.
Pratapas played a key role in the Wolfpack's first ranked victory since Nov. 14, 2021, anchoring the defense with a season-best eight saves in the 2-1 win over Wake Forest. Seven of those stops came in the second half after allowing a goal in the 43rd minute. Her eight saves are the most by an ACC goalkeeper in a conference win this season.
