RALEIGH, N.C. – Senior outside hitter Courtney Bryant posted 22 kills to tie her career high in the Pack's five-set win over Florida State on Sunday afternoon at Reynolds Coliseum, capping off the program's 50th Anniversary Alumni Weekend.
The win marks the first in conference play for head coach Megan Wargo-Kearney and the first of the season. The Wolfpack moves to 8-6 overall, 1-3 in ACC play. It was also the first win over the Seminoles since 2022.
Florida State was hot from the start as the Noles took a lead the Pack was unable to overcome in set one.
After the Noles took set one, 25-14, the Wolfpack used the time in-between sets to regroup and find momentum. NC State led by as many as three points (21-18) at the end of set two, but the Noles tied it 22-all. Two kills by freshman outside hitter Rebecca Ring allowed NC State to regain the lead and take the set, 25-23.
The Pack trailed 10-5 in the third set, forcing an early timeout to be used by Wargo-Kearney. After the timeout, the Wolfpack rallied back and eventually tied the frame 19-all, but a 6-3 scoring run by the Noles gave FSU the set, 25-22.
The Wolfpack needed to take the fourth set to force a fifth. After the Noles scored four unanswered points, Wargo-Kearney used another early timeout to regroup the squad. After falling behind by five (18-13), the Pack used a 13-5 scoring run to close out the fourth set on top, 25-23.
Heading into the fifth set, Florida State won the coin toss and selected to serve first. The two programs exchanged points at the beginning but it was NC State that scored eight points first. After the teams switched sides and had a media timeout, the Wolfpack closed out the fifth set on a 7-4 scoring run to claim the set, 15-9, and claim the match, 3-2.
Bryant led all scorers with 22 kills while Ring added a career high 18. Bryant and fellow senior Sydney Daniels each picked up two service aces while redshirt-junior setter Elaisa Villar tallied 34 assists.
Redshirt-freshman Alyssa Forelli tallied a career high eight assists, three blocks, and one kill.
The win marked the 824th win in program history, 215th conference win in program history, eighth overall and first conference win under Wargo-Kearney's leadership.
