NC State Claims Victory Over No. 10 Pepperdine

RALEIGH, N.C.- No. 14 ranked NC State women's tennis its opening weekend of home dual matches defeating No. 10 Pepperdine 5-2.Â
The Pack took on Pepperdine in a Sunday Showdown, following a dominant 7-0 victory over Campbell on Friday night. With a youthful yet determined roster, NC State has proven to be a fierce competitor, showcasing their strength against ranked opponents.
No. 5 ranked doubles team Maddy Zampardo and Gabriella Broadfoot continued their winning streak after picking up their fifth straight win as a pair after defeating the No. 14 ranked doubles team Savannah Broadus and Vivian Yang of Pepperdine 6-2.Â
Junior Anna Zyranova went 2-for-2 in the Pack's home opener and has shown consistency coming off of an injury, only giving up one game against No. 90 Liam Oved of Pepperdine 6-1, 6-0.
Freshman Michaela Laki made her college debut on Friday in the Pack's dual match against Campbell. She returned to action on Sunday, stepping up to the No. 1 singles slot against highly ranked No. 10 Pepperdine, where she delivered an impressive victory over No. 13 Savannah Broadus defeating her in straight sets 6-4, 6-4.
No. 55 Gabia Paskausas dominated in singles play, sweeping the first set 6-0 and only dropping one game in the second set, securing a 6-0, 6-1 victory to clinch the match for the Wolfpack. In another tough battle, Maddy Zampardo squared off against No. 112 Alexia Harmon. Zampardo took the first set 6-3, but Harmon fought back to win the second set 7-6. In a tense 10-point tiebreaker, Zampardo showed great resilience, ultimately claiming the match.
Looking ahead, the Wolfpack will travel to Knoxville, Tennessee, to compete in the ITA Kickoff Weekend, hosted by Tennessee, from January 24-25. Their upcoming opponents include Texas Tech, Ohio State, and Tennessee.
