
No. 14 Women's Tennis Advances to Second Round with Sweep of South Carolina State

Raleigh, N.C. – It was business as usual for the 14th-ranked Wolfpack women's tennis as NC State won 4-0 over South Carolina State to open the NCAA Tournament for the second straight year from the J. W. Isnehour Tennis Center Saturday afternoon.
With the victory, the Wolfpack will advance to the second round and take on Old Dominion on Sunday, May 5th, at 2 p.m. from the J.W. Isenhour Tennis Center.
Doubles play saw both the Wolfpack's ranked pairings earn victories on courts one and two. First, No. 12 Amelia Rajeacki and Maddy Zampardo, after being down the first two sets, found their rhythm and went on to win six straight sets to finish with a 6-2 victory. The doubles point was claimed by No. 29 Sophie Abrams and Anna Zyryanova with a 6-3 win over Rachida Berjane/Feriel Mahbouli, putting the Pack on top into singles play.
The Wolfpack stayed in control in singles play, winning the opening set on all six singles courts. The second-ranked Rajecki finished first with a sweep of the second set, winning all six games. No. 71 Zyryanova quickly followed with a win on court three, only dropping one game between the two sets.
Senior Abrams closed out the day on court six with a pair of 6-2 set victories to send NC State to the second round. She continues to climb into the top 10 in program history in career singles victories.
Also putting on strong performances was freshman Zampardo, who won her first set 6-1 in her first NCAA tournament and was up 5-0 on court five before going unfinished. Gina Dittmann was cruising 6-1, 4-1, and Abigail Rencheli swept her first set 6-0.
With a win tomorrow, the Wolfpack will make their fourth straight Sweet 16 appearance.
