
Pack Tallies Five Home Runs in Two Wins Over Queens

RALEIGH, N.C. – The NC State softball team picked up two more wins after defeating Queens in the doubleheader Tuesday evening at Dail Softball Stadium.
The Wolfpack saw five athletes record a home run between the two games, the most recorded by the Pack in a single day this season.
The wins move the Pack to 22-18 on the season, 20-5 in non conference play.

NC State will hit the road for its final road trip of the season. The Pack will face Virginia in Charlottesville starting on Friday, April 12.

Game One
How it Happened
- Freshman Kayla Fekel earned the start for the Wolfpack and struck out the first batter faced of the game.
- Freshman Tori Ensley hit a single to left field to lead NC State off in the bottom half of the first. She would later steal second and then advance to third on a throwing error by the Royals catcher. With one out on the board, sophomore MaKayla Marbury slammed a ball to the left line post that was ruled fair and called a home run. The two-run homer marked her ninth home run of the season and put NC State ahead 2-0. Fellow sophomore Amanda Hasler would single up the middle with two outs on the board and Hannah Goodwin was walked. The Royals picked up the final out of the frame to stop the Pack from increasing the lead.
- Junior Alaina Smith recorded her third hit of the season after recording a leadoff double in the bottom of the second. With one out on the board, fellow junior Taylor Ensley singled up the middle, allowing Smith to score and put NC State ahead 3-0.
- Sophomore Ellie Goins drilled a two-run bomb to left center field to move the Pack ahead, 5-0. With two outs on the board, Tori Ensley recorded her second hit of the game, a single up the middle, that allowed a runner to score. The Pack finished the third inning with a 6-0 lead.
- Queens puts a lone run on the board after the leadoff batter in the fourth drilled a bomb to center field.
- Hasler struck out in the bottom of the fourth, but reached first due to the pitch being wild which allowed Marbury to score. The Pack held a 7-1 lead heading into the final three frames.
- The Royals were unable to minimize the scoring deficit and NC State came out on top, 7-1.
- Fekel earned the win in the circle after pitching 4.1 innings and picked up three strikeouts. Rylee Wymann pitched the final 2.2 innings and tallied one strikeout.
- Tori Ensley and Hasler led the Pack with two hits each while Marbury and Goins each tallied two RBI's.
- The win marked the 21st of the season for the Wolfpack.
How it Happened
- NC State wasted no time taking the lead as a double by Amanda Hasler and home run by Hannah Goodwin allowed the Pack to plate three in the bottom of the first.
- The Pack added two more to the board in the second after Taylor Ensley hit her ninth homer of the season to give NC State a 5-0 lead.
- Redshirt sophomore Michele Tarpey wanted to add to the home run tally for the evening as she drilled a two-run bomb to right field to push NC State ahead 7-0 in the bottom of the third. The homer was her second of the season.
- The Royals put a lone run on the board in the top of the fourth after a single to left center field allowed one to score. Queens trailed by six heading into the bottom half of the frame.
- Aisha Weixlmann entered the circle in the top of the fifth and struck out the first two batters faced. After walking one with two outs, she struck out the fourth batter faced to end the top half of the inning.
- NC State added an eighth run to the board in the bottom of the sixth after a sacrifice fly by Marbury allowed Tori Ensley to score.
- Like game one, the Royals were unable to minimize the deficit and the Wolfpack won 8-1.
- Wyman pitched the first four innings and recorded two strikeouts while Weixlmann pitched the final three innings and picked up five strikeouts.
- Hasler led the Pack with two hits and three members of the Pack recorded two RBI's in the outing – Michele Tarpey, Hannah Goodwin, and Taylor Ensley.
- The win moved the Pack to 22-18 on the season and marked the 20th win in non conference play.
