RALEIGH, NC. – History was made at the J.W. Isenhour Tennis Center Friday afternoon as senior Amelia Rajecki became the fourth women's tennis player in NC State history to reach 100 career wins in singles play. Her career milestone helped the Wolfpack earn a 4-3 victory over Miami.
Rajecki joins Adriana Reami (127), Anna Rogers (117), and Alana Smith (105) as the only players to reach the milestone.
Although the Wolfpack (17-6, 7-3) didn't secure the doubles point, they once again fought their way to four singles wins to beat the Hurricanes.
Anna Zyryanova kicked off the comeback with a straight-set victory on court three, winning 6-1, 6-2 over Antonia Balzert. Court four saw a similar result in Gina Dittmann cruising to a 6-2, 6-3 win after defeating Leonie Schuknecht.
In a back-and-forth affair, Abigail Rencheli fell on court two after being unable to force a third set. She dropped the second-set tiebreak to allow Miami to even the match.
The 100th win for Rajecki didn't come easy. Facing off with No. 14 Alexa Noel, she found herself down after the first set but battled in the second set to even the match with a 6- four victory. The set win propelled the Nottingham, England native to dominate the third set, winning 6-0 to put the Wolfpack up 3-2 in the match.
Winning her 13th match of the season was Maddy Zampardo, as the freshman clinched the fourth and final point for the Wolfpack. She defeated #104 Audrey Boch-Collins 6-4, 7-5, holding on for her fifth straight victory.
The Wolfpack now turn their attention to their final regular-season home match against Florida State on Sunday, April 7th, at noon. It is senior day, and the Wolfpack will recognize Sophie Abrams, Dittmann, Rajecki, and Rencheli before the match.
