Hasler’s Walk-Off Homer Allows Pack to Sweep NC Central

RALEIGH, N.C. – A walk-off home run by sophomore Amanda Hasler allowed the NC State softball team to sweep NC Central Wednesday night in the final two non-conference games of the 2024 season.
The two wins moved the Pack to 27-20 overall and 24-5 in non-conference play.

How it Happened
- The Eagles struck first and took a 2-0 lead after a two run homer in the top of the first. NC Central added a third run in the top of the second after a single allowed a runner to score.
- Hannah Goodwin led off the bottom of the second with a bomb to right field to get NC State on the board. Michele Tarpey would then hit a two run bomb to dead center field to tie the game three all. With one out on the board and one on base, freshman Tori Ensley hit her first collegiate home run, a two run shot, to push NC State in front, 5-3. The Pack finished the frame with six runs scored on five hits and a 6-3 lead.
- The Pack added seven more runs in the third inning. Ellie Goins and Amanda Hasler both recorded RBI doubles to help the Pack increase the lead. Tarpey recorded an RBI single and MaKayla Marbury reached base on an error which allowed a runner to score. The Pack recorded a total of seven runs on three hits to end the third inning with a 13-3 lead over the Eagles.
- NC Central struggled to find a weak spot in the Wolfpack defense despite making several attempts to get a runner into scoring position.
- Sophomore Madison Inscoe pitched all five innings for the Pack and picked up six strikeouts. She moves to 8-7 on the season in the circle.
- Tarpey led the Pack offensively -- she went 2-2 from the plate and recorded four RBI's.
- Six other members of the Pack recorded a hit in the outing.
How it Happened
- NC State put a run on the board first after Taylor Ensley hit an infield single that allowed one to score in the bottom of the first.
- The Eagles responded in the top of the second with a three-run, home run to take the lead over NC State. Kayla Fekel pitched the first two innings for the Pack and posted three strikeouts.
- Aisha Weixlmann entered the circle in the top of the third for the Wolfpack.
- The two teams posted a zero on the scoreboard for eight straight frames (bottom of the second to the top of the sixth). Weixlmann struck out seven batter's between the third and sixth innings.
- With two outs on the board in the bottom of the sixth, Michele Tarpey hit a two-run missile to center field to tie the game three-all.
- The Eagles saw its leadoff batter record a single to start off the seventh inning. After the Pack picked up two outs, Weixlmann walked the fourth batter faced before picking up her eighth strikeout to stop the Eagles from regaining the lead.
- Kaylee Lambrecht led off the bottom of the seventh with an infield single. MaKayla Marbury followed suit to have two on with no outs for Taylor Ensley. The Eagles were able to get Ensley out, but the Pack had two runners in scoring position. Amanda Hasler stepped into the batter's box and worked a 1-2 count before recording a three-run, walk-off home run to end the game with NC State on top, 6-3.
- Taylor Ensley led the Pack with two hits and Hasler led with three RBI's.
- Weixlmann was credited with the win, which moved her to 8-7 on the season.
- The win marked the fourth consecutive for the Pack.
