RALEIGH, NC – Fourteenth-ranked NC State split their weekend dual matches with their in-state opponents after falling to 23rd-ranked Duke Sunday afternoon 4-3 from the J.W. Isenhour Tennis Center.
The Wolfpack had gotten off to a fast start, winning the doubles point with wins from their ranked pairings on courts one and two. First, No. 13 Amelia Rakecki and Maddy Zampardo moved to 4-0 in ACC play and 11-2 in dual matches, winning 6-4. Tenth-ranked Sophie Abrams and Anna Zyryanova moved their ACC record to a team-best 5-1 after a 6-3 win.
After clinching the victory over the Tar Heels in the last match, Maddy Zampardo continued to play fast, finishing first on court six and giving her fifth ACC victory, defeating def. Karolina Berankova 6-3, 6-2.
Duke got their first point on the board after a win on court three, but the Wolfpack found their third match point coming from fifth-ranked Rajecki on court one, picking up another ranked win this time over No. 97 Emma Jackson 6-3, 6-2.
Unfortunately for NC State, they could not secure another win to secure the match. The visiting Blue Devils won on courts two, five, and four to earn their fourth straight win over the Wolfpack.
NC State will look to get back in the win column as they hit the road for Virginia with a two-match weekend beginning in Charlottesville to take on the Cavaliers on Thursday, March 28, at 4 pm and then head to Virginia Tech to close out the month of March on Saturday, March 30th at 1 pm.
