NEW YORK – NC State women's basketball junior Saniya Rivers was named Associated Press (AP) All-America Honorable Mention for the 2023-24 season, becoming the eighth player in program history to garner postseason recognition from the outlet.
The Wolfpack point guard added to her collection of postseason honors after already being named to the First Team All-ACC, the All-Defensive ACC Team and the All-ACC Tournament First Team. She was also a top 10 finalist for the Ann Meyers Drysdale Award.
Rivers is averaging 12.4 points and 6.2 rebounds while leading the team in assists (3.9) and steals (2.3) per game. Those latter two averages both rank in the top 10 in the ACC.
Her 33-point performance against then-No. 2 UConn remains tied as the team's single-game scoring high this year, and she is one of only 11 players nationally to have a 30+ point, 10+ rebound, 5+ assist game in 2023-24. She had back-to-back seven-steal, five-assist game against Duke and Clemson, and her 68 total steals ranks in a tie for 15th on the program's single-season record list.
A native of Wilmington, N.C., Rivers has scored in double figures in 19 games this year, with 14 of those coming in conference action. She ended the regular season with six 10+ point contests in a row. Rivers averages 10.5 points, 5.7 rebounds, 3.4 assists and 2.0 steals across 61 games played in two seasons at NC State.
Rivers and the Wolfpack open 2024 NCAA Tournament action on Saturday, March 23 at home. NC State's first-round matchup is set for a 2:30 p.m. start from Reynolds Coliseum that day, and the team will face off against Chattanooga.
