Powerful Sixth Inning Pushes Pack Past Mountaineers

RALEIGH – The NC State softball team won its 11th consecutive game after a thrilling 6-2 battle with App State Sunday afternoon in the final game of The Wolfpack Classic.
The win marked the sixth consecutive over the Mountaineers and 10th consecutive win at Dail Softball Stadium for the Pack this season.

How it Happened
The Pack will head east to take on East Carolina on Wednesday Feb. 28. First pitch is set for 4pm and will be broadcast on ESPN+.
The win marked the sixth consecutive over the Mountaineers and 10th consecutive win at Dail Softball Stadium for the Pack this season.

How it Happened
- App State jumped out to a 1-0 lead in the opening frame after an error by the Wolfpack allowed Grace Barrett to get to third and later score after Peyton Darnell singled up the middle.
- Hannah Goodwin hit a leadoff single in the bottom of the second to try and build momentum for the Pack. With one out on the board, Ellie Goins was walked, advancing Goodwin to second. App State struck out the last two batters to keep the Wolfpack scoreless.
- MaKayla Marbury stepped into the batter's box with one out in the bottom of the third. She doubled to left center field and later advanced to third after a sacrifice fly from Amanda Hasler. Marbury was left on base at the conclusion of the third after App State picked up the final out.
- Goodwin led off the bottom of the fourth with a walk and Nadia Sykes entered to pinch run. Michele Tarpey singled to centerfield and Sykes made it to third to have runners on the corners for Goins who was next in the batter's box. Goins singled and Sykes was originally called out at home but after review was ruled safe to tie the game one-all.
- After getting two outs in the top of the fifth, Rylee Wyman's time in the circle was done. Madison Inscoe entered the circle but a runner scored for App State to take the lead 2-1. Aisha Weixlmann then entered in hopes of getting the third out. She struck out the lone batter faced to finish the top half of the fifth.
- Amanda Hasler tied things up in the bottom of the fifth after sending a rocket to right field. The homer was her sixth of the season and third of the weekend.
- Goins led off with a walk in the bottom of the sixth and later stole second. Kaylee Lambrecht stepped up to the plate and doubled to center field, allowing Goins to score to give NC State the 3-2 lead; Lambrecht started the fire under the Wolfpack. The Pack went on to score three more runs in the bottom of the sixth after a single, a double, and a sacrifice fly allowed runners to score. The Pack saw three App State pitchers in the bottom of the sixth. NC State finished the sixth inning with a 6-2 lead.
- Weixlmann closed the door on the Mountaineers in the seventh as she picked up her fourth strikeout and helped stop App State from decreasing the deficit. She was credited with the win and finished the day win four strikeouts in 2.1 innings.
- Marbury led the Pack with two hits while Hasler and Ta. Ensley led with two RBI's each.
