
NC State Sweeps Campbell 7-0

RALEIGH, N.C. - No. 17 NC State sweeped Campbell 7-0 Thursday, Feb. 22 in the first outdoor match of the season.
The Pack extended its overall record, 5-3 to start its three match weekend in Raleigh. The Pack headed into Thursday's match with a three game sweep streak over the camels securing a sixth win in the history books.
Statement from Head Coach Kyle Spencer at the conclusion of the Packs 7-0 victory over Campbell:
"Our guys really came through in a good tiebreaker over at number two. Then in singles it was a good battle- It was a nice Raleigh evening, the weather was nice and warm and the guys got to play outside which makes for great tennis- It's a great start to the outdoor season and I'm looking forward to Sunday in a double- header against NC Central and Elon."
Statement from Damien Salvestre:
"It was the first win outside with the guys, I'm glad I got to get out there and play doubles with Joe. In singles I had a clear plan of what I wanted to do, and I applied that from the beginning, getting an early break, that got me rolling."
Doubles:
Juniors Fons Van Sambeek and Braden Shick lead the pack in doubles, refusing to drop a game against the Camels. The pair had a quick 6-0 match leaving courts one and three to secure the doubles point for the Pack. Robin Catry and Luca Staeheli dropped on court one, facing defeat in the tiebreaker against the Camel's. Joe Wayand and Damien Salvestre were left on court three to secure the doubles point and put the Pack on the board.
Singles:
Junior Damien Salvestre got things started for the Pack in a quick 52 minute match of tennis, defeating opponent Luke Tollenaar in a 6-0, 6-1 back to back two set victory.
Luca Staheli, Braden Shick, and Joe Wayand all put points on the board for the Pack in back to back two set victories.
Campbell came out strong in singles, testing No. 61 Robin Catry in the first set. Catry broke away in the first set, beating out opponent Damien Nezar in the first set tiebreaker 7-6 (7-2). After falling short in the second set, Carty remained on court one in a third set face-off coming out on top in a 10-4 tie break.
Fons Van Sambeek was last on the court, battling it out on court 2 against Benjamin Mass of Campbell, taking the match to all three sets. In a neck and neck third set tiebreaker Van Sambeek closed out the match victorious in a 6-4, 3-6, 1,0 (18-16) fight
