NC State 4, Missouri State 3
How it Happened
- NC State was hot from the start. To open the bottom half of the second, Ellie Goins singled down the left line and MaKayla Marbury laid down a bunt. The two advanced to the next base after a wild pitch with Madison Inscoe in the batter's box. Inscoe hit a sacrifice fly, bringing Goins home to give the Pack the early lead. Marbury later scored after Taylor Ensley hit a double to centerfield. The Wolfpack closed out the second inning with two runs on three hits.
- The Bears added a run of their own in the top of the third after a solo home run from Chloe Merced.
- Barrels were still hot for the Pack in the third as Amanda Hasler hit a leadoff single. Fellow sophomore Gabi Wilson entered to pinch run while Michele Tarpey headed to the plate -- Tarpey reached first on an error by the Bear's shortstop. Goins made her second appearance in the box and singled to second, allowing Wilson to score, giving NC State the 3-1 lead.
- The score remained 3-1 with NC State on top through the sixth. Missouri State evened things out after a single and sacrifice fly allowed runners to score, making it three-all.
- With two outs and a runner on first, Kaylee Lambrect doubled to left, allowing the Pack to regain the lead after Nadia Sykes touched home.
- The Bear's attempted to tie things up in the top of the seventh but were unable to get past the Wolfpack defense.
- Madison Inscoe started in the circle for the Wolfpack, pitching five innings before Aisha Weixlmann entered. The senior pitched 1.1 innings to earn the win for the Wolfpack, while Inscoe reentered with two outs and one on base in the seventh. Weixlmann was credited with the win and Inscoe with the save, the first of her career.
- Inscoe finished the afternoon with five strikeouts and 6.1 innings pitched.
- Amanda Hasler, Taylor Ensley, and Ellie Goins all finished the outing with two hits. Kaylee Lambrecht recorded a stolen base, her first of the season.
How it Happened
- The Hilltoppers wasted no time stacking the score as they saw six cross home plate in the top of the first after three singles, a walk, and an error by the Wolfpack.
- Amanda Hasler recorded her third hit of the day in the bottom of the first, a single up the middle. Unfortunately, the Pack was unable to get on the board and minimize the deficit.
- WKU scored again in the top of the third, but the bottom half of the frame allowed the Pack to get on the board. Hasler reached base on an error by Hilltoppers' infield before Ellie Goins stepped into the box. Goins doubled to center field, allowing Hasler to get home, but the Pack still trailed 7-1 at the end of the third.
- Michele Tarpey hit a one out, solo home run in the bottom of the sixth to minimize the Hilltoppers' lead to five. The hit was her third of the day and fifth career home run.
- Aisha Weixlmann finished the afternoon in the circle for the Pack. She spent 6.1 innings there and tallied three strikeouts.
