
Pack Win 12th Straight Home Game, Close Non-Conference with Win Over James Madison

RALEIGH, N.C. – The NC State women's basketball team closed out the non-conference with a win over James Madison, 61-47, for the Pack's 12th straight home win in head coach Wes Moore's 1,100th game coaching as a head coach. The Pack used a big 16-2 run in the first quarter and never looked back to help the Pack close non-conference play 8-3. NC State held JMU to 27 percent shooting from the field, the fourth time the Pack has done that to an opponent this season.
Aziaha James led the Pack with 21 points, while Madison Hayes and Zoe Brooks followed with 11 and 10, respectively. Tilda Trygger led the Pack on the boards with seven.
The Pack won the tip and Saniya Rivers capitalized quickly with a jumper. Brooks had six of the Pack's 10 first points including on a basket through contact, as the Pack started the first four minutes with a 12-5 lead. The Pack continued its run to make it a 12-0 one with James and Hayes 3-pointers. Brooks capitalized with another layup through contact. NC State led the Dukes 20-7, while keeping JMU 18 percent from the field at the end of the first quarter.
The second quarter did not see much offense, as NC State was outscored 10-6 in the second. The Pack hit a few cold streaks from the field, including a scoring drought for 4.5 minutes. Brooks found James for a jumper to dig the Pack out of the drought, but the Pack held the Dukes to no field goals for four minutes. At the half, the Pack had the 26-17 edge.
Mallory Collier drew contact off a layup for an and-1 to convert a 3-point play. JMU cut it to six with an and-1, but James answered with the Pack's next three baskets, including two triples. After that second 3-pointer by James, the Pack took a 13-point lead, forcing JMU to call a timeout, as the Pack was ahead 40-27 with 4:40 left in the third quarter. The Dukes came out of the timeout with four straight points, but Trygger took it to the hoop for a layup. The Pack was held scoreless for the remaining three minutes of the quarter, as NC State went into the fourth quarter with the 42-33 advantage.
James scored the first basket for the Pack in the fourth with back-to-back jumpers. The Dukes went on a 5-0 run to cut the lead to eight, but Hayes answered with a 3-pointer, as the Pack led 49-38 with 6:08 left in the game. NC State continued its run to an 8-0 run, as Devyn Quigley made two free throws and knocked down a 3-pointer. The Dukes called a timeout, being held scoreless for over three minutes, as the Pack led 54-38 with four minutes to play. NC State outscored JMU 19-14 in the fourth quarter to elevate to a 61-47 win.
