
Balanced Pack Attack Runs Past William & Mary

RALEIGH, N.C. – The NC State men's basketball team had five players score in double figures and scored 39 fast break points on its way to beating William & Mary, 84-61, Friday night inside the Lenovo Center.
With the win, NC State is 5-0 for the first time since the 2018-19 Pack squad started the season 6-0.
Marcus Hill led the Pack in scoring for the second consecutive game, scoring 19 points on 7-of-13 shooting. Jayden Taylor and Dontrez Styles each added 12 points while Ben Middlebrooks chipped in 11 and Brandon Huntley-Hatfield had 10.
Middlebrooks added a career-high five blocks in the win while Huntley-Hatfield finished one rebound shy of a double-double.
The Pack had a 19-point halftime lead and the Pack's lead was still 20 with 14:18 to play, but NC State's went on a drought offensively which allowed the Tribe to go on a 21-8 run to get within seven, 59-52, with 5:29 to play.
After only scoring eight points in the previous nine minutes, NC State exploded for nine points in the next one minute and eight seconds as the Pack pushed the advantage back out to 16 and ended any William & Mary threat of a comeback.
The Pack kept pushing in the final minutes, pushing its advantage up to 25 points when KJ Keatts scored his first career basket with 25 seconds to play.
NC State finished the game with a 39-7 advantage in fast break points and the Pack also forced 21 William & Mary turnovers which NC State turned into a 29-15 advantage in points off turnovers.
William & Mary had an early 7-3 lead, but NC State responded by holding the Tribe scoreless for the next six minutes as NC State went on a 15-0 run to take an 18-7 lead. After a William & Mary three cut the Pack's lead to eight, a 17-5 run over the next seven minutes gave NC State its largest lead of the opening half at 20, 35-15.
NC State took a 43-24 lead into the locker room after outscoring William & Mary 20-3 in fast break points and 16-2 in points off turnovers.
Noah Collier scored 25 points to lead William & Mary.
Friday's win completed the Pack's five-game season-opening homestand. NC State's next game is Thanksgiving Day as the Pack faces Purdue in a rematch of last season's Final Four semifinal game. Tipoff against the Boilermakers is scheduled for 3 p.m. ET and the game will be televised on FS1.
