RALEIGH – The NC State women's basketball team is back at home to face Kent State on Thursday night. NC State and Kent State will tipoff at 7 p.m. at Reynolds Coliseum, and the game will be streamed on ACC Network Extra.
SCOUTING NC STATE
- NC State checked in at No. 13 in the AP Poll and No. 10 in the WBCA Coaches Poll after the first week of games having beaten ETSU (W, 80-55) and losing to No. 1/1 South Carolina (L, 71-57)
- The Pack has six players who average more than 5.0 points per game across the first two contests
- NC State is led by Zoe Brooks' 16.0 points per game and 2.5 assists per game, while Aziaha James follows with 15.0 points per game and freshman Zamareya Jones logs 9.0 points per game off the bench
- Saniya Rivers leads the Pack on the boards (7.0), as well as blocks per game (2.0) and is tied with James with 2.0 steals per game
- After two games, the Pack leads the ACC in least fouls per game (7.5). Nationally, the Pack is second in least fouls per game
- The Wolfpack will play Kent State for the first time since 2018. The Golden Flashes are coming off a MAC Tournament Championship and NCAA Tournament appearance
- The Wolfpack has the fifth toughest non-conference schedule in relation to its opponents' final 2023-24 NET ranking, with that NET average being 107. That is the second toughest among ACC schools (trails Duke)
SCOUTING KENT STATE
- Kent State was picked to finish second in the MAC Preseason Coaches Poll, earning two first-place votes, behind the conference favorite Ball State
- The Golden Flashes finished 21-11, 13-5 in MAC play, last season. Kent won the MAC Tournament to punch a ticket to the NCAA Tournament for the sixth time in program history, first time since 2002. Kent lost to second-seeded, No. 9 Notre Dame, 81-67 in the first round
- Jenna Batsch earned a spot on the Preseason All-MAC First Team. She is the leading returning scorer, having logged 13.3 points per game last year. She leads the team in its first two games with 3.0 assists per game
- The Golden Flashes are 1-1 to begin the season
- Five players average double digits through two games, led by Riley Rismiller's, Dayton transfer, 17.0 points per game. Bridget Dunn leads the team with 11.0 rebounds per game and 2.5 swats per game
SERIES HISTORY (NC STATE LEADS SERIES 2-0)
- The Pack will face off against Kent State for the first time since 2018
- In the last meeting, NC State beat the Golden Flashes at home, 78-61
- The first time these two teams met was in 1983, resulting in a 79-55 victory for the Pack on a neutral floor
- NC State has won by an average of 20.5 points
- The Pack fell to top-ranked No. 1/1 South Carolina at the Ally Tipoff, 71-57
- NC State trailed by as many as 20 but cut the deficit to seven with four minutes left in the game. That was the closest the Pack could get, as SC closed out the game on a 9-2 run
- Freshman Jones brought the energy off the bench with a team-high 16 points off 4-of-7 shooting from beyond the arc. She added two assists and played 28 minutes
- James logged 13 points and three assists in 35 minutes
- Brooks tallied double digits once again with 11 points and two boards
- Rivers registered seven rebounds and three blocks with her four points
- All 12 available players saw time on the court for the second straight game
UPCOMING
NC State will travel to the Lone Star State to play TCU at Schollmaier Arena on Sunday, Nov. 17 at 3 p.m. Eastern Time. The Pack will be back at home on Thursday, No. 21 to take on Coastal Carolina at 5 p.m. Single-game tickets can be purchased HERE.
