NC State Falls to Wake Forest

Justin Joly scored his first touchdown of the season to give NC State a 30-20 lead with 13 minutes left in the fourth quarter. After a Demon Deacon (2-3, 1-1) response for a touchdown to make it a one-score game, the Wolfpack went three-and-out, only taking 1:36 off the clock. The visitors would go down the field after converting two fourth downs and score, leaving 1:01 left in the game with the Wolfpack unable to go down the other end and convert.
After coming in for an injured Grayson McCall early in the first quarter, freshman quarterback CJ Bailey went 28-42 and 272 yards, throwing two touchdowns and an interception on the last drive.
Joining Joly in scoring their first touchdown in a Wolfpack uniform was Keenan Jackson, who scored the first touchdown of the day in the second quarter. Joly led all Wolfpack receivers with 73 yards, followed by Wesley Grimes with 46 and freshmen Noah Rogers and Terrell Anderson, each with 45 yards receiving.
Kendrick Raphael led all Wolfpack rushers on the ground with 48 yards and a 20-yard touchdown. It was his third touchdown of the season.
NC State totaled 419 yards to Wake Forest's 315. Demond Claiborne led the Demon Deacons, who ran it 20 times for 136 yards and two touchdowns.
Kanoah Vinesett hit three field goals to help the Pack, converting from 35 twice and 37, with his lone miss coming from 49.
Aydan White led the defense with nine total tackles and two pass breakups. The defense forced turnovers, with Bishop Fitzgerald coming away with an interception and Sean Brown sacking the quarterback, forcing a fumble, but only came away with seven points off the two turnovers.
This is only the third time since 2001 that Wake Forest has come into Raleigh and left with a victory.
NC State will now look to return to the win column when it welcomes Syracuse to an ACC contest on Oct. 12 at 8 p.m.
