The ACC announced Tuesday afternoon its weekly honors to athletes who have demonstrated excellence over the competition week. The ACC selected Wolfpack freshman Erika Pelaez as this week's female Swimmer of the Week. This honor will be Erika's first ACC Swimmer of the Week award.Â
ÂMaking her college debut this past weekend against the Arizona State Sun Devils, Erika Pelaez wasted no time making her mark on the NC State program. Making a strong first impression, Pelaez was responsible for setting the NC State school record in the women's 200-yard freestyle (1:43.14), and the pool record in the women's 200-yard backstroke (1:50.71). Pelaez led the Wolfpack women to its victory against the Sun Devils, contributing to 27 points scored for the team, according to swimcloud.com.Â
ÂPelaez participated in six events over the weekend, clocking a first-place finish in all participating events. Erika was one of seven members of the three number-one nationally ranked Wolfpack women's relay teams. Nationally ranked relays include the 200-yard medley relay, 200-yard freestyle, and 400-yard medley relay. Pelaez competed in both the 200-yard medley relay and 200-yard freestyle.Â
ÂErika was selected in September to join the USA Junior National team after being one of six number-one ranked recruits in the class of 2024. Prior to joining the Wolfpack, she won four medals at the 2023 World Juniors Championship, including second place in the 50-yard backstroke, and third place in the 100-yard backstroke.
