RALEIGH, N.C. – 19th-ranked NC State men's soccer (8-2-5, 3-2-2 ACC) added another conference win to their record after defeating Louisville (6-5-4, 0-4-3 ACC) at home Sunday night 1-0.
The Wolfpack picked up their first shutout win in over a month, while also handing the Cardinals their first shutout loss of the season.
A highly-competitive first half kicked off with Enzo Carvalho making a huge save just in the first two minutes of the game after a ball was sent across the box to a player running in to make a scoring attempt.
A free-kick down on the other end, fired off by Taig Healy to the upper corner of the goal, forced the visiting team's goalkeeper to make a save that bounced off the crossbar to keep the game scoreless.
In the 11th minute, a long ball sent up from the back line was chased down by Drew Lovelace to stay in play was layed off to Hakim Karamoko who tried to make his way towards goal. After defenders stepped to him, he remained in control of the ball and chipped it over to Henrique Santos who was able to strike with his left foot to the back of the net.
The rest of the first frame, possession evened out between the two but the red-and-white were able to outshoot their opponents 6-4 while staying equal in corner-kick opportunities at four a piece.
Another near scoring opportunity was created early in the second half when Healy fed a ball into Karamoko. His shot was blocked but Lovelace was able to find the second shot opportunity that was met by a centerback on the goal line to make the save.
Neither team would find anymore scoring opportunities for the remainder of the game.
By the end of the 90 minutes, NC State had outshot 13-8 and collected four saves compared to Louisville's three.
