Wrestling Hosts First Ever Sellout Crowd, Falls to Cowboys 22-12

Jack, Arrington, and Hidlay each earn wins
RALEIGH, N.C. – The fourth-ranked NC State wrestling team fell to the ninth-ranked Oklahoma State Cowboys, 22-12, Friday evening in Reynolds Coliseum.
The meeting between the two top-10 programs was a sellout, the first ever for an NC State home match.
125 (3-0, Oklahoma State)
Troy Spratley and Jakob Camacho started the evening for the two teams. Spratley earned the Cowboys three points after defeating Camacho by a 7-3 decision.
133 (7-0, Oklahoma State)
Dalton Fix started with a quick 7-2 lead over Kai Orine, but Orine added an escape with one minute remaining in the third period to shrink Fix's lead to 7-3. With just seconds left on the clock, Fix recorded another three-point takedown to increase the Cowboys' team lead to 7-0.
141 (7-3, Oklahoma State)
Fourth-ranked Ryan Jack and seventh-ranked Tagen Jamison went scoreless through the first period, despite Jack coming close to a takedown. Jamison took the lead in the second period after a quick escape and later received three points for a takedown at the one minute mark. After an escape from Jack, the junior took down Jamison with five seconds on the clock to put NC State on the board and shrink the Cowboys' lead to four team points.

In the final second of the first period, fourth-ranked Jackson Arrington took down No. 19 Jordan Williams to take a 3-0 lead. To start the second period, he added a point for an escape and later added three more for a takedown with 15 seconds on the clock. Arrington added another three points in the third after recording his third takedown of the bout. The 10-0 shutout marked his third shutout this season and tied the match 7-7.
157 (10-7 Oklahoma State)
To start the second period, fifth-ranked Ed Scott put a point on the board after escaping from No. 24 Teague Travis. Travis started the third with a 3-1 lead and quickly added to it after recording a takedown. Scott managed to escape and later post a takedown of his own with 40 seconds remaining in the bout. Despite a last second escape for Scott, Travis took the upset, 7-6, and pushed the Cowboys in front 10-7 on the night.
165 (13-7 Oklahoma State)
Unranked AJ Kovacs held No. 2 Izzak Olejnik scoreless in the first period, followed by Olejnik getting on the board in the second period after recording an escape and a takedown, ending the period on top, 4-1. Kovacs recorded a second escape, but was unable to top Olejnik marking Oklahoma State's second-straight win.
174 (16-7 Oklahoma State)
After two periods, No. 32 Alex Faison held a 1-0 lead over Brayden Thompson and started the third period at the top position. Thompson managed to escape in the third, tying the score at 1-1 and forcing sudden victory. After six periods of action that saw multiple replay reviews, Thompson took three points with a 2-1 win over Faison as a result of riding time.
184 (19-7 Oklahoma State)
Redshirt-freshman Dylan Fishback held a 3-1 lead over third-ranked Dustin Plott through the first period, with a back-and-forth affair soon bringing the score to an 8-8 tie. A strong finish from Plott resulted in a 12-8 decision, giving Oklahoma State what would prove to be an insurmountable 19-7 advantage.
197 (19-12 Oklahoma State)
Second-ranked Trent Hidlay defeated Jersey Robb 19-4 in dominant fashion, highlighted by three takedowns in the second period to gain a 14-3 edge heading into the final frame. After two more takedowns and over two minutes of riding time in the third, Hidlay secured his 16th consecutive win.
285 (22-12 Oklahoma State)
Redshirt-junior Owen Trephan trailed Konner Doucet throughout the second and third period, but with 30 seconds remaining in the third, Trephan escaped to knot the score at 1-1. Doucet took the victory as a result of riding time, giving the Cowboys a 22-12 win over the Wolfpack.
