Pack Men Win, Women Split in Tri-Meet Against UNC and UVA

CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. – NC State returns from Charlottesville with the Wolfpack men sweeping both Virginia and UNC, with the women splitting after defeating UNC and falling to Virginia.
The Wolfpack men took down two pool records with a 3:07.89 in the 400-medley relay. Leading the relay was Kacper Stokowski, finishing in 45.92; on the breaststroke was Sam Hoover, who finished in 53.43. Luke Miller turned in a split of 45.76 on the fly, and Quintin McCarty brought the record home with a split of 42.78.
The meet was capped off with a 1-2 finish in the 400 free relay. Leading off was Stokowski with a time of 44.18; McCarty (42.71), Miller (42.90), and Fox (42.26) to total a time of 2:52.05, setting the pool record.
In the 1000 free, NC State swept the top three spots. Led by Ross Dant, Dant finished with a time of 9:02.19. Owen Lloyd (9:08.22) and James Plage (9:11.46) followed in second and third.
Freshman Daniel Diehl made his collegiate debut and did not disappoint. Diehl claimed the 200-yard backstroke title with a winning time of 1:42.64, more than three seconds ahead of the field. Wolfpack teammate JT Ewing placed 2nd in 1:45.90. Diehl now ranks 47th in the NCAA this season, while Ewing's season-best 1:40.21 ranks 14th.
The Wolfpack kicked off the meet with four first-place finishes. James Plage started the meet with a 4:23.65 win in the 500 free, and McCarty won the 50 freestyle with a time of 19.27. The 200 fly went to Noah Bowers with a time of 1:45.27, just beating out teammate and the defending NCAA champion in the event Aiden Hayes (1:46.72).
On the women's side on day one, NC State took second in both relays, going 3:34.68 in the 400 medley and 1:30.24 in the 200 free. Additionally, Abby Arens took 2nd in 200 breast at 2:11.33, while Kennedy Noble placed 2nd in the 200 back at 1:54.09.
Jerry Fox set a personal best in the 200 free with a 1:35.04 and took home first place, followed by Diehl at 1:36.08 in third place.
The men's 100 backstroke saw NC State finish first and second. Stokowski clocked a 46.02 to claim first, followed by Hayes with a 46.74, coming in second.
Diving Results
Bayleigh Cranford recorded a 326.55 in the Women's 3m dive to finish first. Helene Synott and Elisabeth Rockefeller placed among the top five, with Synott finishing in fourth place, scoring 294.90, and Rockefeller right behind her in fifth place, scoring 288.70. Ashton Zuburg came in ninth, followed by Clara Tate in 12th.
The men's 1m dive saw the Wolfpack place first and second as senior Bayne Bennett scored 349.95 for first, followed by a second-place finish by Renato Calderaro with 343.60 points. The two flipped places in the men's 3m, with Calderaro finishing in first (372.60) and Bennett in second (341.80)
In the women's 1m dive, Zuburg finished in fifth, Tate in sixth, Cranford in seventh, Rockefeller in eighth, and Synnott in ninth.
