DELAND, Fla. - The NC State men's soccer team ended its Florida road trip by dropping its second straight contest of the year.
The Wolfpack couldn't find the back of the net, falling to Stetson 2-0. Monday's match was the first ever meeting between the two teams.
NC State drops to 2-2 on the season. It was the first time this year the Pack failed to score a goal. Part of that was due to the play in the net by Hatters goalkeeper Nicolo Radaelli, who had four saves.
The Pack also did not spend a lot of time on the Stetson offensive side of the pitch, only getting six shot attempts, compared to 19 by the Hatters.
The game was scoreless at the half, but Stetson proved to be the early aggressors. At the break Stetson had 10 shot attempts compared to just two from the Wolfpack.
Both of NC State's first half attempts came from well within scoring range. Freshmen Ervin Cruz and Yuta Toya each took shots from inside the box, but were unable to find the back of the net.
The Wolfpack got a defensive boost in the second half that briefly appeared to give the team life. Ben Voase, starting in place of Lucas Hatsios, had a big save in goal to start the second half. The momentum would be short lived.
Stetson's first goal came at the 57th minute when Andres Mata broke the ice with a low center score that slipped past Voase. The Hatters iced the game in the 80th minute with a straight on goal from Charles Ahl.
Hakim Karamoke got on a header after a corner kick, but stopped by Radaelli at the 76th minute. Two minutes later Luke Hille got a good look on a free kick, but Radaelli was there for the save.
Up next: NC State will host Boston College in its ACC opener on Friday at 7 pm.
