Wohner's Late Goal Helps Pack Remain Undefeated in 1-1 Tie Against Rutgers

RALEIGH, N.C. – Annika Wohner's equalizer in the 88th minute helped the NC State women's soccer team stay undefeated as the Wolfpack recorded a 1-1 draw against Rutgers on Thursday night at Dail Soccer Stadium.
In front of a packed crowd of 1,462 fans, the Wolfpack battled back after allowing an early goal to Rutgers' Allison Lowrey to knot the score at 1-1. NC State (1-0-2) earned a corner kick with less than three minutes remaining, bringing Mackenzie Smith to the corner flag to deliver the Pack's fourth and final corner kick of the night. Smith's delivery into the box found the head of Wohner, who headed the ball past the Scarlet Knights' goalkeeper for the tying goal.
Wohner's header marked her first goal of the season as NC State almost scored twice from set pieces in the second half. Brianna Weber almost notched her second straight game with a goal involvement as her header off a Wolfpack corner forced a save from Olivia Bodmer in the 66th minute.
NC State outshot the Scarlet Knights (1-1-1) 7-6 in the second half. The Wolfpack did not allow the Scarlet Knights a corner kick the entire night.
Goalkeeper Maria Echezarreta notched her 200th career save with her second stop of the night in the first half. Echezarreta now has tallied 201 saves in her NC State career.
Jameese Joseph paced NC State again in shots with five attempts. Rosalie Olou made her NC State debut with 52 minutes off the bench, while sophomore Alex Mohr recorded her first-career start and played the full 90 minutes.
Rutgers struck first in the sixth minute when Lowry finished from the right side of the box, giving the visitors a 1-0 lead. Lowry's goal came off a double assist from Sara Brocious and Allison Lynch. Gia Vicari led the Scarlet Knights with four shots, registering one attempt on target.
