NC State trio earn ACC weekly tennis honors

Izquierdo Luque, Catry, Staeheli named ACC Players of the Week
RALEIGH A trio of NC State tennis players were honored by the ACC on Tuesday.

Fifth-year senior Rafa Izquierdo Luque, senior Robin Catry and junior Luca Staeheli were all named ACC Players of the Week.

Izquierdo Luque was named the Men's Player of the Week while Catry and Staeheli were voted the Men's Doubles Players of the Week.

Izquierdo Luque pulled off a big win last week, knocking off No. 1 Eliot Spizzirri of Texas, 6-2, 3-6, 6-0. It was the first win over a ranked opponent for Izquierdo Luque this season. Tuesday morning, Izquierdo Luque was ranked No. 52 in the ITA Rankings.

Catry and Staeheli also had a big night in Texas, knocking off Spizzirri and Cleeve Harper, the No. 3 doubles team, 6-3. It was the seventh straight win for Catry and Staeheli, who were ranked No. 27 in the latest ITA Rankings.

No. 25 NC State returns home this weekend, hosting Notre Dame (5:30 pm) on Friday and a double header on Sunday versus Louisville (noon) and North Carolina A&T (5 pm).Â
