Ortega Named All-Around Champ
DURHAM, N.H. – The NC State gymnastics team brought home a second-place finish in its final EAGL Championship meet, posting a 196.425.
The evening was highlighted by Alexis Ortega being recognized as the all-around champion at 39.250, while Emily Shepard was awarded the EAGL Gymnast of the Year for the second time in her career. Chloe Negrete additionally claimed co-champion honors on floor with a score of 9.900.
Towson took the team title with a 196.500, claiming the school's first EAGL Championship in program history.
Beam (49.075)
The Pack began its evening on beam where the team only counted scores of 9.800+. For the 11th time in 12 meets, Negrete posted the Pack's best score in the event, firing a 9.850. Ortega used a 9.800 to aid her all-around effort that was matched by Gabrielle Diaz and Krista Zultevicz. Beam specialist Macy Jennings additionally tied her season-high of 9.825 to round of the NC State scoring effort.
Floor (49.275)
The Pack's best event of the night came in its second rotation, with a 9.900 from Negrete in the anchor position marking the best score from any Wolfpack gymnast of the evening. Lauren Rutherford posted the second-highest score at 9.875, while a pair of 9.850 marks from Diaz and Zultevicz helped deliver a strong six-routine showing. Ortega's 9.800 was NC State's final counting score, while Shepard posted a 9.775.
Vault (49.025)
The Pack posted a trio of 9.800 marks on vault, as Diaz, Rutherford, and Negrete each tied one another during the squad's third rotation. Shepard's 9.850 was the Wolfpack's best score, while a 9.775 from Ortega completed the scoring.
Bars (49.050)
NC State closed with three 9.850+ scores on bars, highlighted by back-to-back 9.875 scores from all-arounders Ortega and Shepard. Rutherford anchored at 9.850, while Kailee Adomaites led off with a 9.650. Peyton Childs added a 9.750, while Meredith Robinson completed the scoring effort at 9.700.
