
Pack Wrestling Dominates Virginia With 34-4 Victory in Charlottesville

CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. – The NC State wrestling team recorded its second straight ACC victory in dominant fashion with a 34-4 victory at Virginia on Friday.
The Wolfpack (12-1, 2-1 ACC) won nine of 10 matches over the Cavaliers (6-5, 0-3 ACC), including five via major decisions and one via a technical fall.
NC State's 34-4 victory over the Virginia marked its ninth straight win in the series, marking back-to-back 30-point triumphs over the Cavaliers.
No. 4 Ryan Jack opened the dual for the Pack in the 141 class with a 4-1 decision against No. 29 Brian Courtney. No. 17 Jackson Arrington then earned NC State's second straight ranked victory when he registered a 10-2 major decision over No. 26 Jarod Verkleeren.
No. 7 Ed Scott made it back-to-back major decisions with a 12-4 win over Virginia's Jake Keating. Scott used a four-point near fall in the second period to pull away from Keating in the third matchup of the night.
Virginia got on the board in the fourth match when No. 17 Justin McCoy defeated Derek Fields 8-0 for a major decision. No. 29 Alex Faison responded with a 6-1 decision over Hudson Stewart to make it 14-4 Wolfpack through five matches.
In the 184 weight class, No. 3 Trent Hidlay notched NC State's third major decision of the dual with a dominant 21-9 victory over No. 17 Neil Antrassian. No. 9 Isaac Trumble then defeated No. 24 Michael Battista 3-1 to stretch the Pack's advantage to 21-4.
No. 12 Owen Trephan recorded the dual's first technical fall with an 18-2 triumph over Virginia's Colden Dorfman, clinching the dual win with a 26-4 advantage after eight matches.
NC State closed the dual with a pair of major decisions. No. 28 Jarrett Trombley earned a 10-2 victory before No. 25 Kai Orine fell just one point short of a technical fall, defeating Marlon Yarbrough II 18-4.
