Three Student-Athletes Earn ACC Postgraduate Scholarships

GREENSBORO, N.C. – Three NC State student-athletes have been named Atlantic Coast Conference postgraduate award recipients, as announced by the conference office on Thursday. Josh Brockman, Kelsey Chimel and Nyls Korstanje earned the Weaver-James-Corrigan postgraduate scholarship.
Allie Hays of the women's cross country/track & field team was named an honorary scholarship nominee, as she plans to pursue professional careers instead of pursuing postgraduate courses.
Since the inception of the ACC postgraduate scholarship program, NC State has had more award winners than any other school in the league.
The Weaver-James-Corrigan is awarded to selected student-athletes who intend to pursue a graduate degree following completion of their undergraduate requirements. Each recipient will receive $6,000 toward his or her graduate education. Those honored have performed with distinction in both the classroom and their respective sport, while demonstrating exemplary conduct in the community.
The student-athletes will be honored at the annual Cone Health ACC Postgraduate Scholarship Luncheon presented by ESPN on April 10. The luncheon will be hosted by the Nat Greene Kiwanis Club at the Sheraton Four Seasons Hotel Imperial Ballroom in Greensboro, N. C.
Joshua Brockman • Men's CC, Track & Field • Business Administration
An All-American in the 110m hurdles during his junior campaign, Brockman holds the school record for the event with a time of 13.55 that he recorded at the 2022 NCAA Championship. Throughout his four years, he has earned a spot on the All-ACC Academic and All-ACC Performer teams three times. During his sophomore and junior seasons, he was an NCAA Regional Qualifier, in addition to being named to the USTFCCCA All-Academic team.
Kelsey Chmiel • Women's CC, Track & Field • Animal Science
The Saratoga Springs, N.Y. native has an impressive resume, including being a seven-time All-American. Her sophomore campaign was one for the books as she was tabbed the 2021 ACC Cross Country Performer and Scholar Athlete of the Year. In addition, she was tabbed the USTFCCCASoutheast Region Cross Country Women's Athlete of the Year. In track, she sits in the top-ten in the program record book for numerous events and was a two-time NCAA East Region Qualifier in 2021.
Nyls Korstanje • Men's Swimming and Diving • Sustainable Materials and Technology
A 17-time All-American and eight-time ACC Champion has helped the Pack win back-to-back ACC Championship. He was tabbed the ACC Men's freshman of the year after his freshman campaign. He competed in the 2020 Tokyo Olympics and placed sixth in the 4x100m medley relay. He owns the world record for the 4x50 mixed freestyle relay, which he set in 2022.
