
Pack Rifle Travels to Morgantown for GARC Championships

RALEIGH, N.C. – The No. 13 NC State rifle team will shoot in the Great American Rifle Conference Championships on Saturday and Sunday in Morgantown, West Virginia. West Virginia's WVU Shell Building will serve as the venue for this weekend's championships.
The GARC Championships will be split into two days with smallbore on Saturday and air rifle on Sunday. Competition on both days is set to begin around 8 a.m. Live results for the GARC Championships can be found at NCAARifle.org.
The GARC Championships will include the following eight teams – No. 13 NC State, No. 2 West Virginia, No. 5 Kentucky, No. 6 Ole Miss, No. 9 Navy, No. 10 Memphis, No. 11 Akron and No. 15 Army. Kentucky edged out West Virginia this past season to win the GARC Championships by three points.
LAST TIME OUT
NC State fired a score of 4,659 at this past weekend's NCAA Qualifying match at Navy, finishing with a smallbore tally of 2,317 and an air rifle score of 2,342.
Ben Salas paced the Pack in smallbore (589), air rifle (596) and individual aggregate (1,185). Salas' air rifle tally fell just one point short of tying his career-high. He finished third-place overall in Saturday's three-team competition.
Katie Tedeschi ranked second among Pack shooters with an individual aggregate tally of 1,159, finishing with a score of 573 in smallbore and 586 in air rifle. Kendall Goebel rounded out NC State's top-three finishers with an individual aggregate score of 1,152, posting a score of 577 in smallbore and 575 in air rifle.
As a team, the Pack enters the GARC Championships averaging a team aggregate score of 4,669.90 with a smallbore average of 2,316.20 and an air rifle average of 2,353.70.
SALAS EARNS NCAA BID
On Monday, Salas was named an individual qualifier for the NCAA Rifle Championships. Salas will travel to Akron, Ohio, on March 10-11 to compete in both smallbore and air rifle.
Salas, who has already set two program records so far this season, will be the first member of the NC State rifle team to represent the Pack at the NCAA Championships since Makenzie Sheffield qualified in both 2021 and 2020. Salas set a new individual aggregate record with a score of 1,188 against The Citadel on Nov. 11. He then broke the NC State smallbore record on Jan. 28 with a score of 592.
The junior averaged a team-best 586 in smallbore and 591.78 in air rifle for an average individual aggregate score of 1,177.78. Salas' smallbore average ranks 21st nationally.
