The win clinches a share of the ACC Dual Regular Season title
CHAPEL HILL NC State closed out the regular season in dominating fashion, defeating rival UNC 28-6 on the road.
Â
With the win, the Pack is 14-1 overall heading into the ACC tournament next month in Raleigh.
Â
No. 5 NC State clinched at least a share of the ACC Co-Dual Meet Champions and defeated the Tar Heels for the 10th consecutive time.
Â
The Pack won eight of the 10 matches and had two wins over ranked opponents.
Â
NC State started the night with a top-10 matchup in the 141 class between No. 6 Ryan Jack and No. 9 Lachlan McNeil. Jack started the match with a quick two-point takedown and McNeil countered with an escape to make it 2-1.Â
Â
That would be as close as it would get the rest of the way as Jack cruised to a 7-5 win.
Â
Jackson Arrington made it two in a row by defeating Wil Guide, 10-6, setting up the second top-10 showdown of the night.
Â
NC State's Ed Scott faced Austin O'Connor, ranked No.2 in the nation. O'Connor remained perfect with a 3-1 win.Â
Â
Two matches later, Alex Faison pulled off an upset for the Pack, taking down No. 12 Clay Lautt. Faison, ranked No. 28 in the country, jumped out to a 5-0 lead over Lautt and never looked back.
Â
Lautt's only point came from an escape in the third as Faison went on to win, 6-1. The Pack led 12-3 after Faison's win, with their top wrestler coming up. No. 3 Trent Hidlay put on a clinic versus Carson Tenold, jumping out to a 12-3 lead in the middle of the second. Hidlay earned a 24-9 technical fall win, pushing the State lead to 17-3.
Â
Isaac Trumble, No. 8 in the country, bounced back from last week's loss to No. 1 Nino Bonaccorsi, by knocking off Max Shaw, 3-1.
Â
In the heavyweight division Owen Trephan fell behind early to Brandon Whitman, who got an early two-point takedown. Trephan got a quick escape and a takedown of his own to take a 3-2 lead in the first. Trephan took all of the momentum in the second and led 10-2 going into the third.
Â
Trephan would finish with a 17-6 major decision victory. After Jack Wagner defeated Troy Hohman in the 125 class, Kai Orine ended the night with a 10-1 major decision win over Jace Palmer.Â
