MEET NOTEBOOK:
Since the creation of the championship meet in 1962, NC State's men have won 31 ACC team titles in the history of the program. As last year's team champions, the Pack men have won the title seven times in the last eight years.
NC State's women have won four ACC team titles in the history of the conference meet. The Pack last took home first place as a team in 2019, the program's second title in a three-year span. It also won the meet in 2017 for the team's first league crown since 1980.
The Pack men dominate the ACC record book, currently owning seven of the meet records, all of those set in the past six seasons. Overall, the Wolfpack owns 369 titles in the swimming events still contested at the conference championships.
The NC State women own titles in 114 individual and relay events since the inception of the conference meet in 1979. NC State's women also hold two meet records heading into this season's competition. Last season, Katharine Berkoff bettered her championship meet record in the 100-yard backstroke (49.41), and Sophie Hansson bettered her conference record in the 100-yard breaststroke (56.72) for the fourth year in a row.
2022-23 IN REVIEW:
The Pack men head into the postseason with a 6-2 record in head-to-head matchups, the losses being to No. 3 Texas. The Wolfpack women were 5-3 in regular season competition, after losing dual meets to No. 1 Virginia and No. 2 Texas.
Both teams have been ranked in the top five of the CSCAA/TYR Top 25 for the entirety of the season. Headed into postseason competition, both the Pack men and Wolfpack women sit in the No. 4 spot in the latest poll. The men are the highest ranked team in the ACC, with Virginia Tech coming in at twelfth. NC State's women are ranked second in the conference behind Virginia.Â
SUCCESS UNDER HOLLOWAY:
Since Braden Holloway took over as head coach at the start of the 2011-12 season, the Wolfpack has enjoyed unparalleled success in the pool.
During the 2010-11 season, both teams finished eighth at the ACC Championships and did not score points at the NCAA Championships. Since then, NC State's men have since secured seven wins at the ACC Championships and the women seven-straight top-three finishes, including winning the conference crown in 2017 and 2019.
NC State's men have finished in the top 15 at the NCAA Championships each year of Holloway's tenure. The Wolfpack women have also finished inside the top 20 at the NCAA Championships for eight meets in a row, going from a No. 7 national finish in both 2017 and 2019 to a program-best second place finish at the 2021 NCAA Championships. The Wolfpack women finished in fifth place finish at the 2022 Championships.
TOP ACC MARKS:
NC State enters the championship with the top seed in five individual events - men's 50-yard freestyle, 200-yard freestyle, 200-yard butterfly, 100-yard backstroke, and the women's 200-yard backstroke.
In the relay events, the men's come into the meet with the top seed in the 200-yard medley relay, 800-yard freestyle relay, 400-yard medley relay, and 400-yard freestyle relay. The women's 200-yard medley relay also sits as a top seed.
