RALEIGH, N.C. – After being named a semifinalist twice the past two seasons and a first-time finalist this year, Joe Shimko has won the Patrick Mannelly Award, recognizing the nation's best long snapper.
Shimko becomes the first NC State player to take home the award and the second long snapper from the ACC to receive the honor, joining Pitt's Cal Adomitis, who won the award in 2021.
In 61 career games at NC State, Shimko has the most game experience on the team, totaling 600 snaps; Shimko has yet to have a bad snap in his five years as the Wolfpack long snapper. He was vital in Christopher Dunn's NCAA record-setting, place-kicking career when he won the Lou Gorza Award.
Shimko has made just as significant an impact off the field and in the community, raising over $400k for charity the past two summers, donating over $55k to GiGi's Playhouse in Raleigh, and donating to multiple organizations in his hometown of Belmar, N.J.
Shimko is the second Wolfpack player recognized as a national award winner this season, following Payton Wilson, who took home the Butkus award for the nation's best linebacker and the Bednarik award for best defensive player in college football.
