RALEIGH — NC State women's basketball rookie Zoe Brooks was named ACC Freshman of the Week and USBWA National Freshman of the Week following a historic performance in what was the first start of her collegiate career.
The Wolfpack guard became just the second player in program history to post a triple-double in the team's Sunday win over Liberty, its only contest of the week. Brooks' 14 points, 12 rebounds and 10 assists marked the first triple-double for a member of the Pack since Tynesha Lewis had one on Feb. 21, 2001.
Brooks is one of 11 players nationally with a triple-double this season, the only ACC player to post one in 2023-24 and the only freshman to accomplish that feat against a fellow NCAA Division I opponent.
The Plainfield, N.J., native set new career bests in points, rebounds and assists and also led the team in steals (3) and tied for the team lead in blocks (2). Her efforts helped the Pack improve to 10-0 for the seventh time in program history and secure a perfect home non-conference record.
Brooks averages 9.9 points, 4.1 assists and 42.3 percent shooting (33-of-78) through the first 10 contests of her first collegiate season. She ranks in the top 15 in the ACC in both assists per game (12th) and assist-to-turnover ratio (11th — 1.78). Brooks has scored in double figures six times in 2023-24.
NC State maintained its spot at No. 3 in Monday's release of the AP Top 25, its second week in a row being ranked third and its third week in a row in the Top 5. The Wolfpack is back in action on Saturday, Dec. 16 as it visits South Florida for its first true road test of the year.
