
Defense Propels Pack to Rout of Charleston Southern

NC State forced a season-high 22 turnovers which led to 29-6 points off turnovers advantage
RALEIGH – The NC State men's basketball team forced 22 Charleston Southern turnovers as the Pack overwhelmed the Buccaneers, 87-53, Friday night inside PNC Arena.
The 22 turnovers were the most forced by NC State in the young season, and the Pack turned those 22 turnovers into 29 points.
The 53 points are the fewest given up by NC State since the Pack defeated Austin Peay, 99-50, in last season's opening game.
NC State improves to 3-0 with the win. This marks the sixth time in seven seasons under head coach Kevin Keatts that the Pack has started 3-0.
DJ Horne led all scorers with 18 points and had a team-high six rebounds. The Raleigh native scored 14 of his season-high 18 points in the second half.
Burns added 16 points on 6-of-8 shooting. He scored 14 points in the first half, shooting six-of-seven from the field in the opening 20 minutes.
Dennis Parker, Jr., had the first double-digit scoring game of his career as the Richmond, Va., native scored 12 points on 4-of-6 shooting. He also added a team-best four steals.
Casey Morsell was the fourth player in double figures with 10 points.
The Pack broke the game open in the final eight minutes of the first half. After the Buccaneers hit back-to-back three-pointers to pull within one at 18-17, NC State rattled off 19 consecutive points over the next six minutes, taking a 37-17 lead on a Burns lay-up with 2:18 remaining in the opening period.
NC State forced three 10-second violations in the first period and its constant pressure forced CSU into 13 turnovers while the Pack only turned it over twice in the opening 20 minutes.
NC State finished the game with a 44-20 advantage in points in the paint.
NC State is back in action on Thanksgiving night when it faces Vanderbilt in the Vegas Showdown held at Mandalay Bay Resort and Casino's Michelob ULTRA Arena. The game is scheduled to tipoff at 10 p.m. and will be televised on ESPN2.
