Joe Wayand, Martin Borisiouk win ITA Carolina Regional title

RALEIGH, NC Joe Wayand and Martin Borisiouk punched their tickets to San Diego, winning the ITA Carolina Regional doubles title.
Wayand and Borisiouk defeated the Duke duo of Andrew Zhang and Michael Heller, 6-3, 6-4.
Wayand, a junior, and Borisiouk, a freshman, will play in the ITA Fall National Championships next week. It will be the second straight trip to the nationals for Wayand, who won the Carolina regional last season with Rafa Izquierdo Luque.
" Very solid effort from both Joe and Bo this week," NC State head coach Kyle Spencer said. "Joe reached the semis in singles beating the the ITA No. 18 and No. 1 seed in singles which was great to see. In doubles Bo and Joe have really jelled and become a synchronous pair that play a pro style of doubles. It was a fantastic day for the Pack."
Wayand finished the spring 2023 season as a first time All-American along with Izquierdo Luque.
Last spring, Wayand and Borisiouk played two matches together, going 1-1.
They started the ITA Carolina Regional with a win over Veljko Krstic/Oskar Antinheimo of Elon, 8-5, followed by a win over UNC-Asheville's Rafa Serra and Brann Reid by a score of 8-4.
The next day they knocked off Casey Hoole and Carter Morgan (South Carolina), 8-3.
In the quarterfinals the Clemson team of Spencer Whitaker and Stewart Aronson. They defeated Harry Thursfield and Luca Pow (UNC-Asheville) in the semifinals, 6-3, 6-4.
The fall nationals start November 1.
