Pack Falls to No. 7 Pitt

RALEIGH – NC State Volleyball (15-5, 5-4) dropped its first home match of the season on Friday evening, falling to seventh-ranked Pitt (18-3, 9-1) in straight sets in Reynolds Coliseum.
Ava Brizard posted a team-best eight kills for the Pack, with Kristen McDaniel aiding the Pack's offensive effort with 11 assists.
The Panthers took the opening set 25-15 after closing the first frame scoring four of the set's final five points. After trading points early, the Wolfpack trimmed Pitt's lead to 9-8 after an attack error but were unable to take advantage beyond that, with the Panthers taking nine of the next 11 points to push their lead to 18-10.
Pitt claimed the penultimate set in similar fashion, with the Pack and Panthers splitting the first 14 points of the frame evenly at 7-7. After moving ahead 10-9, Pitt tallied six of the next eight points and never looked back, securing set two at 25-16.
The final frame saw the Panthers put away the Pack 25-13, with Pitt using a 6-0 run early in the set to move ahead 10-4.
NC State will return to action on Sunday afternoon against Virginia in Reynolds Coliseum.
Sunday's matinee is slated for a 1 p.m. start and is set to be broadcast on ACC Network Extra.
