Annual award honors the top power forward in women’s NCAA Division I basketball
SPRINGFIELD, Mass. — For the second season in a row, NC State women's basketball's Mimi Collins enters the campaign on the watch list for a positional award. The graduate student has been named one of 20 preseason candidates for the 2024 Katrina McClain Award, an honor that recognizes the top power forward in women's NCAA Division I basketball each year.
Collins heads into her second season with the Wolfpack after playing in all 32 games for the program in 2022-23. Last year, she averaged 6.9 points and 4.0 rebounds on a balanced NC State squad and scored in double figures a total of 10 times.
The Slidell, La., native scored a season-high and team-leading 19 points in the Pack's road win at Georgia last December and also paced the squad in scoring in its season finale. That game against the Bulldogs marked the first start of her Wolfpack career, and she combined for 26 points (13.0 per game) and 17 rebounds (8.5 per game) in that contest and the ensuing start against USF.
Coming into her time at NC State, Collins was ranked the No. 22 impactful transfer in the nation by ESPN after being an All-Big Ten Honorable Mention honoree at Maryland in 2020-21.
On her career, Collins averages 7.6 points, 4.6 rebounds and 45.9 percent shooting (373-of-812). She has played 125 games over the course of four completed seasons.
In late January, the watch list will be narrowed down to 10 players. In late March, five finalists will be presented to the selection committee. Details for the presentation of this year's award will be announced at a later date.
