Pack Picks Up Five Wins in Texas Dual to Close Out 22-23 Regular Season

AUSTIN, TEXAS — The NC State men's and women's swimming and diving teams wrapped up the 2022-2023 regular season in dual meet action with the Texas Longhorns.
The Pack men finished day two's competition with 68 points, while the Longhorns secured the win with 80 points. On the women's side, NC State finished with 53 points to Texas' 93.
INDIVIDUAL HIGHLIGHTS:
- Will Gallant posted the second-fastest time in the country with his performance in the 1000-yard freestyle. The Collinsville, Conn. native finished second in the field (8:44.48).
- The Wolfpack women picked up quite a few points in the 100-yard backstroke, where Kylee Alons (52.03), led NC State to finish in the second, third, fourth, and fifth places. Emma Muzzy was second (52.06), Cassie Moses finished fourth (53.56), and Abbey Webb placed fifth (53.61).
- NC State's dominance in the backstroke continued into the next event, with the Pack men finishing first, second, fourth, and sixth in the 100-yard event. Kacper Stokowski secured the win with his 45.63 finish. Aiden Hayes went 46.66 for second, with Giovanni Izzo (47.06) and Hunter Tapp (47.93) finishing fourth and sixth, respectively.
- Katharine Berkoff picked up her second individual win of the weekend with her performance in the 100-yard freestyle. Her time of 47.87 won by just .02 of a second.
- Korstanje (42.68), Henderson (43.15), Piszczorowicz (43.44), and Curtiss (44.10) added more points for NC State with their 2-3-4-6 finishes in the men's 100-yard freestyle.
- On the one-meter board for the men, Bayne Bennett (361.20) finished second in the field, with Renato Calderaro (343.35) adding a season-best for fifth.
- Senior Heather MacCausland set a new personal-best time in the 200-yard breaststroke (2:08.82). The third place finishing time lowered her own No. 6 time in program history, set at the 2022 ACC Championships last season.
- Graduate student Mason Hunter added his name to the NC State record book with his fourth place finish in the 200-yard breaststroke. His time of 1:57.28 stands tenth all-time in program history.
- To close out the meet for the men, senior Noah Bowers posted a quick time of 1:42.21 in the 200-yard fly to put him eighth in the nation this season. The time was just off of his best time(1:41.91), set at ACCs last season.
RELAY HIGHLIGHTS:
- The Wolfpack women started off the morning by going 1:27.98 in the 200-yard freestyle relay, finishing second in the field. Arens put the Pack out front after the first 50-yards (22.22), with Berkoff (21.69), MacCausland (22.33), and Alons (21.74) rounding out the squad.
- Curtiss led off the 200-yard freestyle relay for the men, splitting 19.37 for the second-fastest leadoff leg in the field. Henderson split 19.12, Miller went 18.86, and Korstanje secured the victory for the Pack with his 18.95 anchor split (1:16.30).
- NC State's women closed out the regular season with a win in the 400-yard medley relay (3:29.55). Katharine Berkoff led the field on the backstroke leg (50.86), with MacCausalnd (59.12), Alons (50.88), and Arens (48.69) contributing to the team's finish.
- Kacper Stokowski went 44.79 on the first 100 of the 400-yard medley relay, a time that now marks No. 1 in the nation. Following the reigning National Champion's performance on the backstroke leg, Hunter went 52.00 on the breaststroke leg, with Korstanje (44.83) and Tapp (42.60) bringing home the easy win for the Pack. Second-place Texas finished almost a full three seconds behind.
