Pack Wins Home Opener In Straight Sets

RALEIGH – The NC State volleyball team won its home opener against Colgate, 3-0 (25-19, 25-18, 27-25) Friday evening in its first match of the NC State Classic.
Graduate Vanja Bukilic led the Pack with 11 kills and 12 points.
Freshman Ava Brizard added nine kills and five digs.
Senior Kristen McDaniel tallied 34 assists on the evening.
Set One (25-19)
Bukilic put the Pack on the board with a kill to open the evening. After scoring four straight points and taking a 5-1 lead, NC State maintained its momentum. Colgate attempted to minimize the Wolfpack's lead several times but was unable to. Amanda Rice had the winning kill in set one.
Set Two (25-18)
NC State took three straight points before Colgate got on the board. Bukilic added three kills to the book for the Pack. Maintaining the momentum from the first set, the Pack took set three after a service error by Colgate.
Set Three (27-25)
Colgate kept the third set close and took its first lead of the night after a bad set from the Pack gave them a 10-9 lead. NC State quickly responded by taking a lead. After sending the set into extra points, NC State came out on top.
Next Up
NC State will host Elon at 2pm and Tennessee at 7pm on Saturday Sept. 3 for the final two games of the NC State Classic.
