Four NC State Golfers post career-low scores
HANAHAN, S.C. – NC State women's golf wrapped up its first tournament of the 2022-23 season on Tuesday, posting a T10th finish alongside Wisconsin with a 54-hole score of 861 (+9).
The week was highlighted by four of the Wolfpack's five competitors posting a career low, with NC State as a team posting the lowest cumulative score in program history in the second round with a 278 (-6).
Freshman Vania Simont shined in her collegiate debut, firing a bogey-free 68 (-3) in her opening round and a two-under par round of 69 on Tuesday to close the tournament. Simont's efforts were enough to earn a top-15 finish at T13th, the best finish amongst a Wolfpack golfer in the Cougar Classic since India Clyburn matched her at T13th in 2016.
Natalie Armbruester's week included a career-low round of 68 (-3) in round two, in addition to a season-opening 69 (-2) in round one. Lauren Olivares Leon also posted a career-low round, adding a second-round score of four-under par 67 sandwiched between rounds of 76 (+5) in the opening and closing rounds.
Isabel Amezcua finished the week at T56th, with her best score coming in the second round at 72 (+1). Her Monday afternoon effort included five back-nine birdies, including three consecutive birdies to close her round.
Rounding out the Wolfpack lineup was newcomer Jaclyn Kenzel, whose low score also came during round two with an even-par 71.
With nearly a month-long break from competition now on the docket, NC State will now turn its focus to the Ivy Intercollegiate at the iconic Baltusrol Golf Club on October 10-11.
