8/27/2022 11:00:00 AM | Women's Soccer
RALEIGH – The No. 21 NC State women's soccer team (3-0) will conclude its four-game homestand when the Wolfpack hosts No. 11 Georgetown on Sunday night. Kickoff at Dail Soccer Stadium is set for 7 p.m. and will stream live on ACC Network Extra.
LAST TIME OUT
Senior forward Jameese Joseph did it again Thursday night, scoring a game-winning goal for the Wolfpack with less than five minutes remaining to lift NC State to a 1-0 win over Campbell at Dail Soccer Stadium. Joseph's winning goal came with just nine seconds left on the clock after teammate Jaiden Thomas delivered a pinpoint long pass from NC State's own end. Joseph netted the game-winner with just one shoe, fighting off multiple fouls from the Campbell defender before pushing her final shot of the night past the goalkeeper.
SERIES HISTORY
Sunday's matchup against Georgetown will mark just the fifth meeting between the two programs, all of which have been played since 2013. NC State is 1-2-1 against the Hoyas, earning a 3-1 win at Georgetown on Aug. 25, 2019, before splitting the points at Georgetown this past season in a 2-2 draw.
SCOUTING THE HOYAS
Georgetown has earned all three possible outcomes so far this season, holding a 1-1-1 record. The Hoyas earned a draw at Penn State to open the season before cruising past UMass-Lowell 3-0 this past Sunday. Earlier this week, Georgetown dropped a 1-0 contest to Virginia, the No. 8 team in this week's United Soccer Coaches' Poll. The Hoyas were named the preseason favorite to capture the Big East title with eight of the 11 first-place votes.
BUZZER BEATER
The last time NC State earned a win in the final minute of regulation came at home against Boston College on Sept. 21, 2017, when Tziarra King (89:22) scored the lone goal in a 1-0 win. Jameese Joseph's goal on Thursday (89:51) is the latest game-winning goal for the Pack in regulation since Laura Scott's buzzer beater at Elon on Oct. 3, 2000. Scott buried a "30-yard shot over the outstretched arms of Elon goalkeeper Sommer Cork as the horn sounded" in a 1-0 win.
WOLFPACK RANKS INSIDE TOPDRAWERSOCCER TOP 25
