INDIANAPOLIS – For the second year in a row, NC State women's tennis will be represented by two singles players and a pair of doubles duos at the 2022 NCAA Women's Tennis Singles and Doubles Championships.
Jaeda Daniel and Abigail Rencheli earned at-large bids to compete in the 64-player singles draw. Both women will also compete in the 32-team doubles draw, as Daniel teams up with Nell Miller for the top seed in that bracket and Rencheli pairs up with Amelia Rajecki. Daniel and Rencheli join Anna Rogers and Alana Smith as the four players in NC State women's tennis history to qualify for both events simultaneously.
Daniel is a top-16 seed in the singles draw, garnering her status as an All-American. She and Miller being the No. 1 overall seed in the doubles draw earns them the same status.
The selections mark the second time in as many years that the program will have multiple singles players in the national draw, and the case is the same for having multiple doubles pairs earning bids. Last year's team and this year's team are the only two in program history to accomplish that feat for the NCAA Singles and Doubles Championships. It is the fourth time that NC State will be represented in both brackets in the same season.
Daniel makes her second-straight NCAA Doubles Championships appearance, and her singles selection marks the second time (2018) she has been selected to that draw. All other players across singles and doubles action will be making first-time appearances at the individual portion of the NCAA Championships.
Daniel and Rencheli have both been ranked in singles for the entirety of 2021-22, hitting career-high rankings of No. 8 and No. 24, respectively, earlier in the year. That announcement will be made official following the conclusion of the tournament, but it makes Daniel just the second singles All-American in program history (joining Anna Rogers) and Miller the fifth overall All-American in team history.
In doubles, both Wolfpack pairs are currently ranked in the national top 20, with Daniel and Miller having checked in at No. 1 in the recent April 27 release. They have compiled a 21-3 record, having played 13 of those matches at the top doubles spot for NC State. Eight of their victories this season have been against nationally-ranked opponents, and they are amidst a seven-match winning streak that started on March 27.
Rencheli and Rajecki were ranked as high as 18th nationally during dual match play and checked in at No. 25 in the most recent rankings. They have put together a six-match winning streak that started with a March 20 victory over the nation's 13th-ranked duo.
The singles and doubles championships will be played at the Khan Outdoor Tennis Complex in Urbana, Ill., from May 23-28 following the conclusion of team competition. The draw for the individual competition will be released on Sunday, May 22. NC State opens NCAA Championships action as a team at home on Saturday, May 7 at 2 p.m. as it hosts William & Mary in the first round.
